The BAC is delighted to announce that the following three athletes have signed up to become BAC Athlete Ambassadors. These athletes will work with us to help champion the athlete voice and support the BAC in ensuring we provide the best support and guidance to our membership.

The three amazing athletes in no particular order are:

  • Alex Danson MBE – Retired English international field hockey player, with over 300 international caps to her name, winning Olympic gold and bronze medals in 2016 and 2012 respectively. Click here for a few words from Alex.

  • Hannah Cockcroft MBE – British wheelchair racer specializing in sprint distances in the T34 classification. She won gold in the 100m, 400m, and 800m at London 2017 and has won five Paralympic, 10 world and two European titles since making her international debut. Click here for a few words from Hannah.

  • Lutalo Muhammad – GB Taekwondo athlete who competed for Team GB, winning bronze at the London 2012 Olympic Games, silver at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, won the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final in 2015 and gold in the -87kg class at the 2012 European Taekwondo Championships. These athletes will champion the work of the BAC to ensure all athletes take advantage of the independent, confidential support and advice available to them.Hannah Cockcroft MBE said: “I have benefitted from the guidance and support of the BAC in the past, though some athletes, especially the younger ones don’t take advantage of the expertise available. I’ve had great dealings with the BAC in the past so I want to do what I can to spread the word. The fact that I’m a current athlete, hopefully, that will inspire and reassure others that it’s ok to seek independent, confidential help when they need it.”

Kristian Thomas, BAC Athlete Engagement Manager, and retired gymnast has responsibility for the Athlete Ambassador programme and will be working closely with them on athlete engagement opportunities and driving awareness of what the BAC can offer.

He said: “It’s great to have athletes of their calibre working with us to shape the support and guidance offered to our athlete membership. Being athletes, they absolutely understand the issues and challenges faced, and are perfectly placed to engage with athletes to raise awareness of the support available.”
